If you’re a small business not looking at your Local Search Engine Optimisation, there are a few reasons why you might want to start.
Over the last year or so, Google (other search engines are available), have been moving more and more towards supporting local searches by their users. From ‘Mobilegeddon’, which was designed to show mobile users that best-looking search results for their device – mobile users who are increasingly looking for products and services to buy there and then; to the new, more focused ‘Snack Pack’ of local results you see at the top of most of the searches you do that have some kind of local or location element. This Snack Pack of just 3 results instead of the typical 7 is less cluttered and intended to drive more traffic towards the 3 ‘chosen ones’.
If these and other ‘subtle’ changes don’t convince you of the need to start looking at your Local SEO, maybe this will:
“Local searches lead 50% of mobile visitors to visit stores within one day”
or how about
“18% of local mobile searches lead to a sale within one day”
These stats, and others that help to explain how important Local SEO is becoming are all explained in a great report on Search Engine Land by Jayson Demers, which you can read in full here – 6 Local SEO Stats Every Online Marketer Needs To Know.
